As the sole distributor for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, we guarantee 40 years of TANSUN expertise and British premium quality.
Infrared heating for warehouses – power calculation and installation
How do I calculate the right heating capacity for my warehouse?
Basic rule: Infrared heaters do not need to heat the entire hall area. The calculation is based on the actual work area.
| Area of application | Power per m² of work area | Example calculation | TANSUN Apollo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coldest winter days | 0.2 kW per m² | 25m² work area = 5kW | Apollo 3x1.5kW (4.5kW) |
| Transition period (autumn/spring) | 0.1–0.15 kW per m² | 25m² work area = 2.5–3.75kW | Apollo with dimmer |
| Large hall, localized heating | 0.2 kW per m² of work area | 90m² in a 2000m² warehouse = 18kW | Apollo 9x2kW (18kW) |
Practical example: With an Apollo 18kW, you can efficiently heat a 90m² work area in a 2000m² warehouse without having to heat the entire hall.
What installation height is suitable for TANSUN Apollo infrared heaters?
Installation guidelines for Apollo models (from 4.5kW):
| Installation position | Recommended height | Heat distribution | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vertical (radiating downwards) | Approx. 1m per kW of power | Intense, direct heat | Workstations, production areas |
| Installed diagonally | 30–50% lower than vertical | Wider, gentler heat distribution | Large areas, storage areas |
Specific installation examples:
- Apollo 4.5kW vertical: Installation height approx. 4.5m
- Apollo 4.5kW diagonal: Installation height approx. 3.0–3.5m
- Apollo 6kW vertical: Installation height approx. 6m
- Apollo 6kW diagonal: Installation height approx. 4.0–4.5m
- Apollo 18kW vertical: Installation height approx. 18m (high-bay warehouse)
- Apollo 18kW diagonal: Installation height approx. 12–14m

Why choose Apollo for warehouses instead of individual units?
- Even heat distribution - Multiple heating elements arranged side by side for homogeneous heating
- Higher efficiency - Fewer mounting points for the same output
- Professional appearance - Compact design for industrial applications
- Easier installation - One unit instead of several individual heaters
- More cost-effective - Better value for money than individual units
- Scalable up to 18kW - For very large work areas and high-bay warehouses
Is infrared heating suitable for poorly insulated warehouses?
Yes, particularly suitable! TANSUN infrared heaters also work in poorly insulated buildings and where warehouse doors are frequently opened. Shortwave technology heats people, machines, and goods directly without needing to heat the air. Ideal for logistics warehouses with frequent goods turnover.

Infrared Heating Applications in Warehouses
Logistics Halls & Distribution Centers
Example: Apollo Triple 6kW for a 30m² order-picking area in an 800m² hall. Immediate heat at goods receiving and dispatch, no energy losses from frequently opened doors, targeted heating only of working areas.
Mounting height: 6m vertically or 4.0m diagonally depending on the hall height
Production halls & manufacturing facilities
Example: Apollo Triple 6kW for a 30m² production area in a 1,200m² hall. Even heat for quality assurance, no drafts disrupting production processes, maintenance-free operation.
Mounting height: 6m vertically for intense heat or 4.0m diagonally for broader distribution
Warehouses with high-bay racking
Example: Apollo 9x1.5kW mounted diagonally for a 45m² aisle area between 15m-high racks. Efficiently heats the working aisles without warming the entire hall height.
Mounting height: 9.5m diagonally is optimal for palletizing areas
High-bay warehouses & distribution centers
Example: Apollo 18kW for a 90m² working area in a 2,000m² high-bay warehouse with a height of 20m. Maximum power for large areas and extreme hall heights.
Mounting height: 15m vertically or 8–12m diagonally for optimal heat distribution
Energy efficiency: Why zone heating with infrared is more economical
Practical example: 1,000m² warehouse with a 50m² working area
| Heating type | Area to be heated | Required power | Electricity costs/hour* | Heating time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TANSUN Apollo 9kW | 50m² (working area only) | 9kW | €2,70 | Immediately |
| Conventional electric air heating | 1,000m² (entire hall) | 150-200kW | €45.00–€60.00 | 2–4 hours |
*At an electricity price of €0.30/kWh
Savings: Up to 95% less energy consumption by heating only the required working area. During transitional periods, a further 30–50% savings is possible with the dimmer function.

Frequently asked questions about infrared heating in warehouses
Does infrared heating also work with open warehouse doors?
Yes, because infrared heating warms people and objects directly, not the air. Heat loss through open doors is minimal.
How long do TANSUN Apollo heaters last?
The shortwave heating elements have a service life of up to 7,000 operating hours. With intensive use in a single-shift operation, this corresponds to 5–7 years. After replacing a tube, the units are immediately ready for use again.
Can multiple Apollo units be combined?
Yes, multiple units can be installed for large work areas or multiple spaces. We plan the optimal arrangement for even heat distribution.
Which control systems are available?
From simple on/off switches to smart temperature-controlled dimmers—we offer the right control system for every need.
